seeking an Aerothermal Engineer with thermodynamics, heat transfer
and fluid flow knowledge for the development and ongoing support of
new and existing turbines, bearings, heat exchangers, and other
system components used in surface ship and submarine propulsion and
power generation systems for the US Navy based out of Sunnyvale, CA
. -What You'll get to Do:Our Sunnyvale site specializes in the
development, manufacture, assembly and testing of propulsion and
power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines.
The candidate selected will apply their skills to support current
and future Navy Power & Propulsion Turbomachinery
development.Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to,
the following:
- Develop conceptual designs of Aerothermal systems that employ
thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid flow.
- Provide knowledge and innovative technical approaches.
- Perform thermal-fluid system analysis and predict its
performance using both commercial and in-house codes; conduct
prototype tests and test data analysis.
- Apply practical experience and professional insight to
determine the optimal solutions based on performance, risk, cost,
etc.
- Work independently on thermal/fluid design projects and provide
support for manufacturers and customers.
- Present results to peers and customers in design reviews.
- Define, develop and implement related R&D projects.Basic
Qualifications for Aerothermal Engineer
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical
Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering,
Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 2 years related experience; or
Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or
related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM)
discipline with no related experience.
- Experience in engineering analysis and product
development.
- Deep understanding of thermodynamics, fluid flow & heat
transfer as well as engineering design practices.
- Must have Gas or Steam Turbine experience.
- Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a DOD secret
security clearance.Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, or a
closely related engineering discipline.
- Proficiency with an engineering coding language (e.g. MATLAB, C
or Fortran), MS Office and UNIX based workstations. Salary Range:
$79,300 - $118,900 The above salary range represents a general
guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors
when determining base salary offers such as the scope and
responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience,
education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to
base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual
contributions as well as allow employees to share in company
results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be
eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman
provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage,
life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays
and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business. The
