seeking a Principal / Sr. Principal Magnetic Bearing Lead Engineer
based out of Sunnyvale, CA. This role is part of the advanced
development team that will be developing next generation technology
and architecture for propulsion and power generation machinery for
US Navy submarines. Our success is grounded in our ability to

automation.What you'll get to do:The Magnetic Bearing Lead Engineer
will lead a team of experience Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and
junior engineers in electromagnetics and design to explore, design,
develop, and test new magnetic bearing technology and architecture.
This position requires the ability to lead a multidiscipline team,
manage and complete tasks within budget and schedule, and turn
ideas into reality.This position may be filled at a higher grade
based on the qualifications listed below:Basic Qualifications for
Principal level:
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical or Mechanical
Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering,
Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years of relevant experience;
or Master's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or
related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM)
discipline with 3 years of relevant experience; or a PhD in
Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related Science,
Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with no
relevant experience.
- 5+ years of experience in Electric Machine design and
analysis.
- Solid understanding of electromagnetic principles for power
generator or force production.
- Solid understanding of construction / manufacturing methods of
electric machines.
- Demonstrated technical team leadership.
- U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD security
clearance.Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal level:
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical or Mechanical
Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering,
Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 9 years of relevant experience;
or Master's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or
related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM)
discipline with 7 years of relevant experience; or a PhD in
Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related Science,
Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 4 years
of relevant experience.
- 5+ years of experience in Electric Machine design and
analysis.
- Solid understanding of electromagnetic principles for power
generator or force production.
- Solid understanding of construction / manufacturing methods of
electric machines.
- Demonstrated technical team leadership.
- U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD security
clearance.Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science or Ph.D. STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics) Degree.
- 7+ years of electrical machine and/or inverter / drive
engineering experience.
- Experience with software for system evaluation such as Matlab
Simulink, Simplorer, etc.
- Electromagnetic analysis experience with FEA tools such as
ANSYS Maxwell, Altair Flux 2D/3D, or similar type of
electromagnetic analysis software.
- Experience with electric machines for marine propulsion
applications.
- Experience with naval nuclear propulsion programs. Salary
Range: $107,300 - $160,900 Salary Range 2: $133,000 - $199,600 The
above salary range represents a general guideline; however,
Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining
base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the
position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and
current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to
base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual
contributions as well as allow employees to share in company
results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be
eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman
provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage,
life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays
and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business. The
