Job Description Seeking a passionate, experienced, and
collaborative Senior Laboratory Automation Engineer.
RESPONSIBILITIES As lead laboratory automation engineer, you will
partner with lab colleagues (AD HighRes (qPCR, Automated Sample
Storage and Retrieval)) to evaluate current automation proposals.
Collaborate with scientists to develop scalable solutions to
automate current analytical assays. Manage the vendor relationships
with HighRes, Hamilton, etc. Develop complex data workflows,
implementing barcode solutions and software to ensure chain of
custody and LIMs integration where necessary. Programs liquid
handlers, devices, and robotics. Apply expertise in developing
liquid classes and sophisticated liquid handling protocols. Using
VBA or similar programming skills, integrate third party devices
and robotics to create highly efficient workflows. Apply automation
expertise to recommend novel ways to achieve automation goals.
Troubleshooting and ongoing support Meet with scientists to
evaluate additional opportunities to automate procedures:
Bench-level assays --- liquid handling, sample handling, robotics
Cell culture automation Sample management Provide ongoing
troubleshooting and support Collaborate with LIMs and ELN teams on
any necessary integrations Partner with EH&S on robotic safety
protocols Explore Lab-of-the-Future technologies Requirements
REQUIREMENTS 10 years of research laboratory automation experience.
Hamilton, Tecan, or similar liquid handling programming experience
is required. Experience integrating third party devices is strongly
preferred. Experience working with quantitative assay method
development via liquid class and calibration. Experience with
data/information automation via VBA or other programming languages
Experience with leading lab automation vendors such as HighRes,
Hamilton, Tecan, Beckman, BioTek, Molecular Devices, etc Experience
automating sample storage and retrieval is beneficial. Successful
project execution including vendor selection, robot and liquid
handling programming, bench-to-robot protocol transfer, system
testing, tech transfer, and user training. Strong preference for
experience developing business cases for automation, capacity
modeling, and supervising junior automation engineers. Strong
aptitude for understanding and matching scientists requirements
with the best solutions from the automation industry
