Job Description:

We are seeking graduate students within a Masters level education program (MFT Trainee or MSW Intern) to provide mental health and wellness-based intervention services to children and families at school sites in the Novato Unified School district. Other opportunities are also available to serve youth and families of the Novato Community at one of our two clinic sites, as well.

Essential Functions:

Clinical Services:

  1. Provides scheduled individual and family therapy, both at assigned school site(s) and at the agency, as appropriate;
  2. provides group therapy and targeted/thematic groups as appropriate (i.e. girls' groups, life skills groups, and art therapy groups, etc.);
  3. provides crisis intervention and follow-up as needed;
  4. in coordination with supervisor, evaluates need, and carries out plan, for emergency hospitalization or police intervention, if needed;
  5. consults with principal, schoolteacher, school psychologist, and others to provide continuity of services between mental health and educational resources and objectives.

Case Management:

  1. Assesses needs, locates, and arranges for appropriate referrals of clients as needed;
  2. participates in Student Study Team (SST) meetings, Individual Education Plans (IEP), as well as other school meetings as needed;
  3. collaborates and maintains collateral contacts with school and community resources, including school resource officers, county, court, and probation officers, in addition to parents and significant others.

Training:

  1. Attends weekly training, individual, and group supervision;
  2. promotes team-building and problem-solving;
  3. participates in staff and team meetings, trainings, and in-service meetings.

Documentation:

  1. Prepares initial and on-going treatment plans;
  2. monitors treatment plan implementation and revision of treatment goals and interventions;
  3. ensures that all paperwork and charting requirements are completed and submitted in a timely manner, as described within the NMCS Youth and Family Counseling Program Manual;
  4. supports integrity of service contract by monitoring eligibility requirements, as necessary;
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

NMCS Mental Health and Wellness Trainee team members are required to practice within their scope of work and in alignment with the tenets of professional ethics of social workers, psychologists and marriage and family therapists, as well as with the ability to demonstrate personal integrity, clinical insight, competency, and maturity of judgment.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and effectively with other professionals
  • Has ability to work in a community and agency structure
  • Knowledge of cultural humility practices and familiarity with multi-cultural populations, especially Latino and African-American communities
  • In progress Masters degree from an accredited college or university in social work, marriage and family therapy, or in a closely related field
  • Spanish-speaking ability is strongly preferred; bicultural applicants are encouraged to apply

Job may include walking up and down stairs, standing, lifting and moving small items of up to 25 lbs. Candidate must pass a Live Scan background check and a pre-employment health exam including proof of vaccinations and TB testclearance (costs reimbursed).An applicant with aconviction, otherthan a minor traffic violation, including a misdemeanor and/or felony, will not receive background clearance.
