Research Associate will be part of the Research department and will
provide expertise in the development, optimization, and execution
of analytical characterization for a broad range of biomolecules.
These efforts will support preclinical research programs in the
area of rare disease therapeutics.The Senior Research Associate
will be responsible for deployment, maintenance, and expert use of
complex analytical tools such as HPLC, mass spectrometry, and
fluorimetry to characterize nucleic acids, lipids, carbohydates,
proteins and peptides. Responsibilities include planning and
execution of experimental work, data analysis and presentation of
material at project team meetings.The candidate is expected to
collaborate and work dynamically on diverse projects/platforms,
communicate effectively on scientific concepts, and interact with
colleagues in other functional areas. Cross-functional
collaboration with Technical Operations and Contract Research
Organizations may be required for technology transfer of analytical
methods that support development efforts.Work Model:Core Lab & Ops:
majority of the work requires being in the office or laboratory
either pre, during or post pandemicResponsibilities:Understand
Ultragenyx therapeutic project objectives and work within research
teams to develop effective experimental plans and effectively
execute associated bench work.Collaborate with internal team
members, external collaborators, and CROs to execute experiments
and provide technical insight into appropriate use of scientific
instrumentation.Perform rigorous quantitative and qualitative
analysis of a wide range of biological molecules including nucleic
acids using key analytical methodologies such as column
chromatography, HPLC, LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, gel electrophoresis, and
UV-Vis spectrophotometry.Maintain and troubleshoot complex
analytical instrumentation such as high pressure and standard
pressure chromatography systems, mass spectrometers and their
associated data platforms.Critically analyze experimental results
and communicate results on a timely basis.Maintain detailed records
of experimental protocols and laboratory procedures.Generate and
distribute thorough data analysis reports.Present research findings
to lab group and project teams.Provide insights for continuous
improvement in productivity and capabilities.Prepare technical
reports for regulatory documents including Investigational New
Documents (IND) or Clinical Trial Applications (CTA)Contribute to
patent application fillings and manuscript preparations for
submission.Requirements:Title / Level commiserate with education
and experienceSRA I: Degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences,
Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, bioengineering or other
industry-relevant fields. MS with 2+ years of related experience,
or BS/BA with 4+ years of related experienceSRA II: Degree in
Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemical
Engineering, Bioengineering or other industry-relevant fields. MS
with 4+ years of related experience, or BS/BA with 6+ years of
related experiencePost-graduation hands-on laboratory experience
deploying analytical tools for the quantitative and qualitative
analysis of lipids, nucleic acids, proteins and small
moleculesExperience in bio/analytical and biophysical methods used
for characterization of LNP formulations and knowledge of the
technologies required for formulation optimizationDirect experience
with the troubleshooting and maintenance of high complexity
analytical instrumentationKnowledge of the nucleic acid
manufacturing process is desiredKnowledge of mass spectrometry
techniques for bioanalysis of nucleic acids is desiredExcellent
data recording and ensuring high quality, timely documentation in
laboratory notebookThis position requires excellent organizational
skills, agility and time management in order to meet deadlines in a
fast-paced organizationDemonstrated independence at the bench and
ability to work collaboratively on projectsEffective communication
and presentation skills
