Position Summary:ultra curious - Apply your biggest ideas in courageous waysYou will work in a team leveraging internal and external resources dedicated to delivering biomarker strategies for the translational sciences and development programs across our rare disease indications. You will bring scientific experience in assay development and will be responsible for the design, delivery, and execution of biomarker assays for clinical application, including efficacy and pharmacodynamic endpoints, in alignment with clinical development objectives for Ultragenyx programs.
As Scientist I/II, Biomarker Strategy, you will report to the Director, Biomarker Strategy and work within cross-functional teams, including Translational Science and Clinical Development, bringing technical scientific expertise with a view for clinical feasibility.
Work Model:Core Lab & Ops: majority of the work requires being in the office or laboratory either pre, during or post pandemic

  • Develop and evaluate technical aspects of biomarker assay development and validation for clinical implementation. This will include identification and evaluation of technologies regarding their scientific basis, clinical applicability and validation status
  • Identify potential novel solutions and technologies to address challenging biomarker assay development questions
  • Be the biomarker strategy representative in development, optimization and validation of outsourced bioanalytical assays such as: ligand binding assays, novel biomarker analyses, cell-based assays, qPCR
  • Analyze data to colleagues for internal scientific evaluation. Organize internal meetings for assay review, troubleshooting, data analysis
  • Implement biomarker assay strategies in preclinical studies and coordinate biomarker analyses for clinical trials
  • May provide management support of contract research organizations (CROs), including oversight of bioanalytical methods development and the testing of pre-clinical and clinical samples
    • Scientist I: PhD with minimum of 0-2 years related or post-doctoral experience; or a MS and a minimum of 2-5 years related experience; or a BA/BS and 5+ years related experience
    • Scientist II: PhD with a minimum of 2-5 years related or post-doctoral experience; or a MS and 5+ years related experience; or a BA/BS and 8+ years related experience
    • Experience in bioanalytical assay development including immunoassay and molecular biology techniques
    • Scientific excellence and ability to evaluate, interpret and present complex scientific data within the context of program goals
    • Liquid biopsy analyses, biomarker assay optimization and validation, flow cytometry
    • Background in neurology and immunology would be an advantage
